About Me

I’m Danielle and I love to read. Books and reading have been my favourite hobby since I was around five years old. While I can’t remember some of those early books I read, I know that those books, along with the hundreds of others I’ve read over the decades, have provided comfort in difficult times, inspired me to take on new challenges, made me laugh and smile and cry, and, I hope, helped me to grow and develop my empathy and humanity.

In school, I was always excited when the teacher said it was “time to D.E.A.R.!” I loved the D.E.A.R. posters on the walls of the classrooms, and in the libraries. And that’s why I named this blog Drop Everything And Read.

I love to share my joy of reading with others, whether its talking about favourite books, giving or receiving recommendations, celebrating books, cheering on authors, or even commiserating about how we don’t have enough time to read all the books we want.

So welcome to Drop Everything and Read, where I hope I can entice you to, well, drop everything and read. Whether it’s for five minutes a day or five hours at a time, I invite you to read with intention, with curiosity, and for the joy of reading.

To note, this website is not affiliated with Beverly Cleary, whose author website has fantastic resources for individuals, educators, and others to promote D.E.A.R. day (April 12!) and D.E.A.R. month (April!). Please head over to her website for more information and to also check out her books.

A final note: I really really really dislike genAI. I take a lot of steps to avoid using it and I never use it to write book reviews.
